A very sad death in the Group

We regret to announce the death of  Chris Brett, our Group President.

Chris Brett was a stalwart of Scouting in Finchampstead and Wokingham for many years.

When I first came to Finchampstead, Chris was CSL of Badgers (Wednesday) Pack and, with Don, ran both the Group Newsletter, Redfinch, and the District Magazine, WIN. Subsequently she became Group Scout Leader, and then our Group President. She also sat on the District Executive and was Secretary tot he District GSL’s meeting.

But Chris was so much more than those bare titles reveal. For 20 years she ran the catering operation for Scout Summer Camp and was happy to obtain the food for many other Scout Camps, giving the Leaders a sharp nudge if she thought anything was awry. She was present, and organising, at every Group function and making sure that everything we did was safe, but also exciting. When I was a young Leader, new to the role, she was a voice of sanity for some of my wilder ideas, and a source of encouragement and inspration to give our best for the young people under our care.

We will miss Chris and her voice of quiet wisdom and humour in the Group and in the wider Scouting community and send our condolences to her children Jane, Stuart and Robert and her family.
