UPDATED March 10th – Three Towers Hike 2011 Training Schedule

FINAL (?) 3 TOWERS HIKE 2011 TRAINING SCHEDULE

(Actual Competition Date: April 9th)

Scout / Scout Plus Training Dates:

SAT 05.02.11            Pangbourne (SU669763) to Warren Farm (SU567813)

SUN 13.03.11           Warren Farm (SU567813) to East Ilsley (SU494808)

SAT 19.03.11            Pangbourne to East Ilsley (whole route)

SUN 27.03.11           Pangbourne to East Ilsley (whole route)

SUN 03.04.11           Backup walk only in case of extreme weather, leader sickness

etc. forcing the cancellation of one of the above training

 sessions

This means that everyone gets the chance to practice and walk the whole route either on a Saturday or a Sunday depending on their weekend commitments. Note that all Scouts will be expected to attend at least TWO training events and thus walk the entire route either in separate parts or in 1 go before the event so that a) we know they have the right fitness levels and b) so that they learn the route and won’t get lost during the event. Scouts need to sign up for specific training hikes in advance so that we can get an idea of numbers for each one. Failure to sign up and attend training events means no hike entry – simples.

Leader/Explorer/Scout Plus Training:

Leaders and Explorers will do the same routes as the Scouts and then continue further or return to the start by foot to increase their mileage. Scout Plus teams will go from Blewbury to East Ilsley the long way, i.e. following the Classic hike route.

Meeting Point:

We will meet at 8.30am start for each training session at the Bull pub car park in Arborfield and we will travel in the minibus there and back. You will need to get yourselves to the car park, with your kit, food, drinks etc. and be picked up afterwards. We will let you know the drop off and pick up points nearer the time.

Further information:

Please ask myself or another leader if you have any questions or wish to take part and have not already let me know. We particularly need a couple more Classic team members! Please also check out the event website: www.hike.org.uk
