Summer Camp 2013
Summer time means the 1st Finchampstead Summer Camp, and this year we’re going to the Lake District. We’re going to be doing some hiking, ghyll scrambling (the Lake District version of canyoning) and Via Ferrata (a mixture between hiking and climbing).
22 Scouts and Leaders left Finchbase at 9.30am on 29th March and headed down the M4 to Botany Bay Campsite in Tintern near Chepstow. After a good journey, slightly delayed by Good Friday traffic, we arrived at the campsite around midday and set about pitching camp. Following a wet winter the site was in much better condition that we had expected.
In preparation for the Three Towers hike race on the 20th April we have been running a series of training hikes, so that the Scouts can improve their fitness and knowledge of the course. This way we hope they will stand a better chance of not getting lost and being able to finish the event.
On the 18th January 2013, Tim Booth came along to judge our Troop cookery competition, his last troop night with us before his imminent move to the USA. Good luck with the move Tim and thanks for everything! We hope to see you again soon.
The following training dates have been announced for the Three Towers hike. Please note that all SCOUTS need to participate in at least TWO training sessions, so that they are familiar with the route, have achieved a basic level of fitness and have had the chance to test/ break in their kit.
A
team of 4 scouts from Greenfinch Troop entered the District Scout Cookery
Competition on Saturday January 26th, at the 3rd Wokingham
Scout hut.
Clicking the picture below will get you to the full set of pictures of the Scout Summer Camp 2012, held on Exmoor – a notably wet and windy camp during the Diamond Jubilee week. Apologies for the length of time that it’s taken to put these online.
The dates for Scout Summer Camp 2013 are from Saturday 27th July to Monday 5th August. We’re going to Bassenthwaite in the Lake District (same site as 2007).
This is a fantastic place for Summer Camp and we’ve had several good camps there in the past.
It’s that time again. After the fantastic evening enjoyed by all last
year, the second, and perhaps now annual Burns Night event is to be held
on Saturday 19th January. This year, we are strictly limited on
numbers.
