Why
your Scout should attend:
The culmination of all the activities we
do at Scouts on a Thursday or Friday night is Summer Camp. This is the
traditional camp that Baden Powell started for 11 scouts on Brown Sea Island
102 years ago. It is an under-canvas camp which essentially means the Scouts
being out in the open air and close to nature, and the elements, for a week.
The Scouts will operate in a Patrol – cooking, eating, sleeping, and doing
their activities together. It exposes each Scout to the essential life skills
of leadership, working in a team, making decisions for themselves, looking
after themselves, getting on with each other (and the leaders J)
What
we will be doing:
First off we will be camping in an
absolutely beautiful part of England – the site is truly stunning being right
beside Exmoor. The site has it’s own river running through it where the Scouts
will be able to use their pioneering skills for dam building, bridge building
and raft construction.
The other activities will include
hiking, mountain biking (we will be taking our bikes with us – in full working order please!), water sports (kayaking, sailing or windsurfing – all
in a nearby Lake), high ropes, climbing wall and archery. We are also planning
to have an “Olympic” events day on the site.
All-in-all it’s going to be great and
really not to be missed.
Cost:
£240 per scout all inclusive. We’ll need
a non-refundable deposit of £30 with your confirmation of attendance. If you do
that by Friday 30th/March, the cost to you will be reduced to £220
Logistics:
We expect to depart from Finch Base on
the Saturday morning 2nd/June (probably 8am) and returning late
afternoon on Saturday 9th/June. We will travel by mini-bus.
