Beavers
Beaver Scouts are our youngest members, usually aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first section in the Scout movement, which is divided into smaller groups called Lodges. Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others, along with plenty of outdoor activities.
Personal achievement can be recognised by earning awards and badges. In particular, we balance the programme so that Beavers have the opportunity to achieve the six Challenge badges; when all six have been gained – along with four activity badges – they are presented with the Chief Scout’s Bronze award.
They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them.
1st Finchampstead has two Beaver colonies, Oaks and Willows. Oaks colony meet on Monday evenings, and Willows colony meet on Saturday mornings.
The Scout Association has produced a guide for parents, which you can download here: A Parent’s Guide to Beavers.
